VIOLENCE OF VIOLET

We know flowers as soft and feminine. Flowers bring colour to your home and stand for performance, comfort and love. Flowers are also temporary. They will hang, fall apart, and decay.

Alissa Rees and Billie van Katwijk experiment with dead flowers and the beauty of transience. Using the force of the hammer, they imprint flowers into the fabric to extend their life just a bit longer. The rather brutal method of hitting the flowers produces unexpected forms and patterns; however, these patterns will slowly fade away. Maybe then it is time to let it go.
Alissa and Billie give workshops on hammering flowers; contact one of us for more information.
